Title Research: Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events

 


1. What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?

During the opening sequence  the titles shown include the directors name, the screenplay writers name, what books the film is inspired by, the producers names, the executive producers name, the director of photography, production designer, the editor, the costume designer, the music creator, the co-producer, the associate producer, the actors names, and the production company title.

2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?

The images that are shown are different shots of events that will happen in the film. All of them are moving pictures and foreshadowing what will happen. It opens with an eye and then it begins to show the children in a boat. It then proceeds to show various transitions between different parts which makes it seem hectic. Many shots of the moving children and the tall head are prioritized to show the power dynamic between the children and Count Olaf. 

3. How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the opening sequence?

From the very first shot the opening sequence does not give away anything, it only shows a watchful eye. It then begins to show many things but as each shot passes you do not know what is truly happening and it brings up questions. They use slow paced music in the beginning which begins to speed up towards the end making it suspenseful. The moving characters also bring up questions of what is to come throughout the film.
