Production Blog: Choosing Music for the Opening Sequence

Hey bloggers, welcome back! Today, my group and I selected the music for our opening sequence. The process of us finding the right music choice was hard for us to because we had to find music that fit a suspenseful, mystery, and thriller type of genre all in one. Our opening sequence genre is mystery but we wanted a sound that also emphasized the thrills that come with the mystery of the opening sequence. After searching for about an hour on youtube, I found a perfect sound that matches with the scenes and theme of our opening sequence. Another reason the searching process took a long time was because something that does not copyright had to be found. This type of music is suspenseful and creepy, but it is also equally uncanny and mysterious. The suspense and mysteriousness of the sound will evoke the viewer with a tension, intrigued, excited, and fear type of feel all at the same time. While I was searching for music, I searched up a few mystery films. The reason I searched up mystery films was to pay attention to the details of the music that is used to get some ideas. I listened to the music of a mystery film and it sounded very similar to the music that will be used in my opening sequence. Previously, I picked out a song that was perfect. However, after I picked out the song I realized it had copyright. I was highly disappointed because of how satisfied I was with the song. I had no choice but to start searching for another song, which adds on to the reasons on why finding the right song took quite some time. My group and I felt like while we are filming we might want to add in some other copyright free sound effects into a specific scene of the opening sequence. There is a scene where someone pulls out a knife. For that scene, way more suspense is being added to the opening sequence, so I want to add like a dramatic sound effect. The sound effect would be a higher pitched noise to demonstrate how dramatic the scene is. In about 6 minutes, I was able to find a perfect sound effect for the scene that is copyright free. The link for this intense sound effect is https://youtu.be/uAgc1OHfzRw?si=-JfKMDlhvi6zOhL_. The chances of my group and I adding this sound effect is 99%. For the music, the link of the copyright free youtube video is https://youtu.be/dN3ltKrp2t8?si=y1nko3NgFE5MuXJi. That's all about the process of choosing music for the opening sequence. Thank you for reading, see you soon bloggers!
